The role of Polish regions will increase in the future programming period

The latest Panorama Magazine issued by the Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) features an interview with Elzbieta Bienkowska, Poland’s Minister of Regional Development. Here is a summary of Poland’s plans for the next programming period.

  • The role of Polish regions will increase. Regional governments will have more money at their disposal and to a large extent it will be regional authorities deciding on the allocation of the funds;
  • There will be more funds allocated to scientific research, technological development, innovation and enterprises;
  • Higher focus on the low-carbon economy;
  • More support for start-ups and investments aimed at improving  the work-life balance (e.g. nurseries, teleworking);
  • Sustainable transport will continue to have the highest share of funds (i.e. development of road and rail connections, environmental protection, green energy).
