“Energy Transition – Engine of Growth in Europe’s Regions”

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the use of renewable energy and improving energy efficiency are at the centre of 2030 Europe’s climate and energy goals. Similarly, these goals play a key role in national, regional and local strategies supporting a sustainable energy transition. In many regions of the EU, communities, local and regional authorities and citizens are the drivers of change to delivering the EU’s objectives. Together with local actors, policy makers and experts we will explore contribution that an actively pursued energy transition can make towards sustainable growth, quality of life and job creation, especially on local and regional levels.
At the centre of the event is the exchange of good practices through case studies from different EU Member States that illustrate how local actors, such as municipalities and local energy companies catalyse the shift towards renewable energy and greater energy efficiency in their cities/regions and what results have been achieved.
In a subsequent panel discussion, experts will look at how this development can succeed on a large scale, and spur regional economic development. Therefore, the enabling factors will be discussed, such as, regulatory framework and public support instruments, as well as energy transition challenges that are rooted in cities and regions and benefiting European citizens.
The event will be particularly interesting for policy-makers, representatives of local administrations and local energy companies, business, as well as stakeholders with an interest in decentralised energy solutions.
