Bulgaria: Impact of Structural Funds 2009-2012 and lessons learnt

The 2012 Strategic report on the implementation of the 2007-2013 programmes in Bulgaria highlights some of the results of structural investments between 2009-2012: private consumption is up by 3.9%, government consumption is up by 8.8%, government investments are 26.3% higher, whilst the the unemployment rate is down by 2.4 p.p.

Bulgaria to carry out an information campaign on 2014-2020 funding opportunities

Bulgaria is launching a national information campaign entitled "The New Programming Period 2014-2020". It aims to inform relevant actors (bodies of local and central administration, NGOs and the business sector) about future funding opportunities. For this purpose experts from the managing authorities are set to present Bulgaria's future operational programmes: "Transport and transport infrastructure", "Environment", "Regions in growth 2014-2020", "Human resource development", "Science and education for intelligent growth", "Good management" and the "Rural development programme".

Energy efficiency, a top priority for Bulgaria in 2014-2020

Commissioner Hahn met the newly appointed Bulgarian Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development and Public Works Ekatarina Zaharieva to discuss the management of EU funds in the current period and the future regional policy in Bulgaria as of 2014. The Commissioner welcomed the substantial progress made by the Bulgarian authorities on the acceleration of payments and in preparing the draft regional development programme for the next programming period.
